Mistake #1
Waiting for love to find you
So often I hear from people who say that they never thought they would be on their own for as long as they have been.
They assumed that they would meet someone way before now, but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened.
They hope someone will magically appear. That they will bump into someone in the 3rd aisle of the supermarket or whilst walking the dog. That they’re waiting for new people to join their language class.
Staying in the same routines week after week isn’t helping.
If your life today doesn’t regularly introduce you to new people, what is realistically going to change in six months time?
Often the over 40’s would prefer to meet someone on a friendship level first and to do this through real-life connections such as shared hobbies and interests or similar social circles. They hope that by nuturing the friendship it leads to more, although this is by no means guaranteed. And that’s all assuming that there is someone in the group that you’d like to find a deeper connection with in the first place.
The reality is that they’re not lazy but that life is busy.
They don’t go out as much, their friends are settled down, nights out become meals with friends and weekends become full of chores, DIY, gardening, grandchildren and catching up on jobs.
Lots of people think they would like to meet someone naturally, organically.
Think of being introduced by a friend or at your local walking group, but often people find themselves in their comfort zone.
The same coffee shop, the same dog walk, the same gym at the same time, the same routine week after week.
Where within that routine is there the opportunity to welcome someone new into your life?
We have to start making small changes, but ones that can make big differences.
Think of;
Accepting new invitations instead of declining them
Going to a new coffee shop
Attending singles events
Trying a new activity
Consider a matchmaker
Not because any one thing guarantees success but because every new person you meet increases the possibility.
If a new partner isn’t going to knock on your front door tomorrow, where are they most likely to walk into your life?
Waiting for love to find you is one of the biggest mistakes I see singles over 40 make.
