If you’re dating in South East England and feeling frustrated, you’re certainly not alone.
Recently, I asked members of our Genuine Connections singles community a simple question:
“If you are looking for a partner, how happy are you with your dating life right now?”
The results were revealing.
As a matchmaker in South East England, those results didn’t surprise me.
Every week I speak to singles who are genuinely looking for a meaningful relationship but feel disappointed by their experiences with online dating, dating sites, and modern dating in general.
The good news?
The problem often isn’t that you’re single.
The problem is the way you’re currently trying to meet people.
There are thousands of wonderful single people across South East England looking for love.
Yet despite having more opportunities to connect than ever before, many people feel increasingly frustrated with dating.
Why?
Because modern dating has changed.
Many singles tell me they are tired of:
Whether you’re using dating sites or trying to meet singles through social events, it’s easy to lose confidence when things don’t go as planned.
One of the biggest misconceptions about dating over 40 is that being single means something is wrong.
It doesn’t.
Many of the people I work with through my matchmaking service in South East England are successful, kind, emotionally intelligent individuals.
They’ve built careers.
Raised families.
Created fulfilling lives.
They’re not struggling because they’re not good enough.
They’re struggling because modern dating often prioritises convenience over genuine compatibility.
Let’s be clear.
Online dating isn’t inherently bad.
Some couples do meet through dating apps and dating sites.
However online dating can become exhausting when:
The reality is that dating apps are designed to encourage activity.
They’re not necessarily designed to create lasting relationships.
This is one of the reasons more singles are exploring alternatives such as personal matchmaking.
If you’re feeling unhappy with your dating life, here are five changes that can make a significant difference.
Confidence doesn’t come from getting more matches.
It comes from knowing your value regardless of who chooses you.
The more secure you feel within yourself, the more enjoyable dating becomes.
Many singles know what they don’t want.
Far fewer know exactly what they do want.
Think about:
Clarity helps you recognise compatibility much more quickly.
More dates don’t necessarily lead to better results.
One meaningful connection is worth more than dozens of disappointing ones.
Whether you’re using dating sites or working with a matchmaker, quality should always come first.
Instead ask:
“Do I like them?”
“Do I feel comfortable around them?”
“Do our values align?”
This simple mindset shift helps you date from a position of confidence rather than validation-seeking.
This isn’t about changing who you are.
It’s about asking yourself:
“If I met myself today, would I be ready for the kind of relationship I’m looking for?”
Healthy relationships are built when two people bring their best selves to the table—not perfect versions of themselves, but self-aware, emotionally available versions.
Consider:
One of the most attractive qualities in dating is someone who genuinely enjoys their life.
Not because they’ve “got it all together,” but because they have a strong sense of who they are.
When you focus on building a life you love, dating often becomes less pressured and more enjoyable.
And perhaps most importantly, you’re far more likely to attract someone who complements your life rather than completes it.
The poll results showed something important.
People haven’t stopped believing in love.
They’ve become frustrated with the process.
And that’s completely understandable.
The encouraging news is that dating doesn’t have to feel exhausting.
There are better ways to meet singles, build confidence, and create opportunities for genuine connection.
Sometimes the biggest change isn’t finding more people.
It’s finding a better approach.
If you’re one of the 71% who said you’re unhappy with your dating life, I want you to know this:
You are not alone.
In fact the poll results tell us that many singles are feeling exactly the same way.
But they also remind us of something important:
Being unhappy with your dating life doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.
Sometimes the smallest changes create the biggest shifts.
A little more confidence.
A little more clarity.
A little more self-awareness.
A little more intention.
Dating doesn’t have to feel exhausting.
It doesn’t have to feel like a never-ending cycle of disappointment.
And it certainly doesn’t have to make you question your worth.
The goal isn’t simply to find a relationship.
The goal is to create a dating experience that feels healthy, hopeful, and aligned with the life you’re building.
Because when you approach dating from that place, everything starts to change.đź’›
