Why meeting New People Gets Harder as We Get Older

I’m a matchmaker and I absolutely love helping my clients find the person that they have been looking for.  When a client tells me that they no longer need me to continue looking for matches for them as I have found them someone special, that is a really great feeling and one that I will never tire of feeling.  Knowing I have helped someone and changed their life for the better.

However, one thing I have noticed since I have been a matchmaker is the amount of clients that tell me they are lonely.  That they have lost confidence socially since either divorce or bereavement.

And as we get older it gets harder to make new friends and have a good social circle.  Friends we have known for years may have moved away, or they become busy with grandchildren or aging parents. 

At the moment I know a lot of people are struggling financially so are spending more time working, even adding extra jobs to make ends meet, which is taking up some of what was their spare time.

When you’re single you often find that most of your friends are in couples and couples often socialise with other couples, which leaves singles feeling like they are left on the outside, with no one to socialise with at times when they might like to.

I’ve also noticed that just because someone has found themselves single for whatever reason, they may not want to date straight away.

They simply want someone to go for a coffee with, visit an historical property, see a film or just enjoy a Sunday walk with. Someone like-minded.

The more I’ve listened the more I’ve realised that not everyone is looking for a new partner.  Some are simply searching for people.

People to laugh with, explore new places with and enjoy life alongside.

This is why I created The SocialCircle.

I absolutely believe that life shouldn’t stop just because we find ourselves single. Life is just too precious for this. 

My hope is that The SocialCircle becomes a place where people connect and no one feels a stranger.  Where new adventures begin, confidence grows and lasting friendships are formed. 

A place to discover new experiences, to fill your diary with things to look forward to and create memories with people you may not have known before but soon become the familiar faces of friends.
